BRUSH STROKES OF GENIUS
The children relished being back in the Art department when covid restrictions allowed, immersing themselves in creativity and using the various mediums on offer. They produced a collection of outstanding pieces to be proud of.
Lockdown was not a barrier though and the children continued to work on projects at home with many pieces being displayed around the school
in celebration of their resilience, adaptability and talent.
Here is a peek at some of the projects they worked on.
Expressive Arts and Design is an area of the EarlyYears Foundation Stage which involves supporting children to discover and play with a wide range
of materials. This year, Nursery used Lothar Gotz’s painting of the outside of theTowner Gallery to mix and explore colour and to inspire them in their
rainbow paintings. In our Forest School, they explored and emulated David Nash who works with wood, trees and the natural environment.
Reception used class topics to explore the children’s innovative sides. In the Forest, they used natural materials to make hedgehogs and leaf men and they experimented with Pointillism duringArtsWeek. The children also enhanced their fine motor skills as they moulded clay and playdough and used their hands and feet as paintbrushes!
The Year 1 children looked at the works of a range of artists including Andy Warhol and Andy Goldsworthy
and produced some beautiful collages, weaving, self-portraits, sculptures, printing and clay work to name a few. In their DT projects they constructed houses complete with gardens and fences and scary pirate ships!
Year 2 studied artists ranging from Paul Klee to Picasso and experimented with materials including water colours, chalk, mixed media and natural materials both inside and outside of the classroom creating poppy paintings, self- portraits and winter scenes.
Year 3 explored clay faces inspired by Picasso alongside a collaborative piece in the style of Kandinsky. The children
