Picture a warm Weber. It is not only well-
summer’s evening
at the cottage: cold beverage in hand, you work the grill as you prepare a perfect barbequed feast.
In this mental picture, is the grill you’re using gas or charcoal?
For many cottagers, the answer is “yes.” Serious grillers know that both
gas and charcoal have their place in the grilling world. Add in a smoker, some
prep tables, a rotisserie
and storage for spices and implements, and you’ve got the makings of a perfect outdoor cooking experience.
“Gas grills are perfect for those who are frequently barbequing,” says Peter Briese of Muskoka BBQ and Outdoor Kitchen Centre. “They heat up quickly, cool down faster than other grills and provide convenience for the cook.”
On the other hand, many barbequing traditionalists claim charcoal is the only way to grill. They have a point: charcoal grills offer a unique rich, smoky flavour. Of course, it is possible
to mimic the flavours
of charcoal with proper seasoning and marinating, but there’s more than just the taste involved.
“Charcoal grilling gives a feeling of authenticity,” says Peter. “The crackling sounds, mouthwatering aromas and expertise required for
the perfect grill create a classic Muskoka cottage grilling experience.”
Whatever fuel sources you’re using, the best results come from the best grills.
For gas fans, Peter recommends the Genesis II LX CSE-340 Gas Grill by
suited for the passionate Muskoka grill master, it’s also a Canadian exclusive, says Peter.
It has superb features, like lighted control knobs that let you cook with precision even after the sun has gone down. Nine-millimetre stainless- steel cooking grates create chef-like grill marks, while side burners deliver plenty of fast heat to sauté mushrooms or steam vegetables.
Another plus for the avid griller is Weber’s 10-year warranty for the Genesis II and Genesis II LX series gas grills. The warranty covers everything from the lid to the wheels, which is high to industry standards.
When you’re hosting friends and family at the cottage all summer, being able to cook a whole meal on your barbeque is important. Weber gas grills come in a variety of sizes
and models with plenty of additional options – including rotisserie additions, prep
side tables, storage space for utensils and more.
Traditional choice
Although the evolution of grilling has led to fully- loaded gas options, Weber continues to manufacture top quality charcoal kettle grills, which is what the company was founded on.
In 1952, George Stephen
was working for Weber Brothers Metal Works in Chicago. The company made navigation buoys, among other things, and George – a grilling aficionado – realized the shape would make a perfect barbeque. He wanted a round bottom to hold the coals, and a heavy-duty lid to contain the heat, so he cut a buoy in half, added three legs to the bottom and a handle to the top.
“It was the beginning of
a long history of barbequing,” says Peter. “Over 65 years ago Weber’s founder changed the way we think about grills.”
These days, Weber has a
full line of charcoal grills
to choose from in sizes ranging from 18-inches to 37-inches. Side work tables, LCD timers and other options are available. There are also cooker smokers to add to your outdoor culinary experience.
Above and beyond
Having a range of cooking options lets you create the ultimate outdoor kitchen,
a place where you can cook different dishes at the same time to meet your guests’ preferred tastes.
“Use a smoker to slowly cook melt-in-your-mouth, fall-off- the-bone ribs,” Peter says. “Have your shrimp and fish dishes on the gas grill while steaks, sausages and burgers are being charcoal grilled. With a rotisserie addition
for chicken and a side burner for sautéed vegetables, you’ll be able to host the whole neighbourhood.”
Muskoka BBQ and Outdoor Kitchen Centre’s team can help create the perfect set-
up for your cottage. From
the grills through to guest seating and proper lighting, they provide a concierge-style service for their clients.
“We work with our clients from the design stage to installation and beyond,” says Peter. “We take time to make sure everything is working properly and show our clients how each grill works, even if it means returning to meet with the clients when their schedules allow time for a demonstration.”
Once the grill’s in place and the kitchen is ready, Peter or one
of his team members offers to go through all the functions. Anyone at the cottage who may be working the grill – the property owners or their staff – have the option to receive detailed demonstration
to ensure they are fully confident when using their new appliances.
“Our clients are appreciative
of the way we go above and beyond so their barbequing and outdoor kitchen experiences are fantastic,” says Peter. DS
