Highly Commended – Junior Poetry, 2019 Laura Literary Awards Black is a nightmare
Every day is fresh and new, wisping through my head at night.
as you open your eyes, Black is a much-feared ache
you may have a view, going through a heart’s light.
of all of the things Black is selfish
that you could do. going to the front of time.
If you run a little harder, Black is grief
think a little clearer eliminating all feeling of mine.
and plan beyond the next step.
Darkness is black.
Sometimes you may trip Black is a shadow.
and sometimes, fall you shall Your shadow is your reflection --
but you can never let these things reflections are shallow.
make dents in your morale.
Dust off your knees Black fury
and re-tie your shoes scares the bad.
because if you never let go of this, Feeling despair is black.
you will be left with a mental bruise. Losing life is sad.
But if your best Broken hearted
was not as good the black night
as you had hoped it would be, Black is the palm of my heart.
you could still say, feeling anger is a black art,
“I gave today the black night.
the best I had in me.” Black is the palm of my heart.
