Laboratory for Hydrodynamics Technology (IHL) is an advance research laboratory
of BPPT, with sophisticated facilities including experimental tanks for testing many
types of ships and offshore structures. Laboratory for Hydrodynamics Technology
have three testing fasilities : Towing Tank, Cavitation Tunnel and Maneuvering
and Ocean Basin. The Laboratory is equipped with model workshop that can build
various model. This workshop has an array of equipments to build model, this
includes model, propeller casting, lathes, machining and measuring equipment,
drilling machines, etc.
The Laboratory is devoted to research and development of propulsive, seakeeping
and maneuvering performance of ships and offshore structures of all types. The role
of Laboratory for Hydrodynamics Technology is not only to study and develop the
hydrodynamic performance of existing design but also to contribute the continued
progress and development of technology and knowhow.
The Scope of works on Laboratory for Hydrodynamics Technology are : Ship
powering Prediction, Assessment on propeller cavitation, Maneuvering Simulation,
Sea-keeping quality of Ship, Offshore Structure Designing system, and Numerical
Computation.
