for this assessment i have chosen to create the rendering effects
by the architect peter zumthor, who was introduced to me in the last
studio in architecture.

i have chosen him as he has very similar views on materiality and the

use of light to penetrate the building and use the shadow to create
interesting patterns on the walls, ceilings and floors. the use of the
cross in the back wall and the positioning of the building on site it
creates a room that reflects the light over the course of the day and is
summed up by the, 'I enter a building, see a room, an - in the fraction
of a second - have this feeling about it' (Zumthor 2006, 8). this I feel
is the essence and the atmosphere created in this building by the
architect tadao ando.

so the following is a study on capturing the light through the cross in
the back wall of the church as you enter, by using the same method
as shown in figure 1 that peter zumthor sketched, for one of his proj-
ects the 'therme vals'.
