Through youth sports, day camps and teen leadership development programs, 108,706 kids and teens learned valuable qualities, such as teamwork, perseverance and supporting one another in 2018.
One of the Tampa Y’s top priorities is to help close the achievement gap between children from lower-income households and their middle/ upper-income peers. In order to do this we have to start early. Research shows kids from low-income neighborhoods enter kindergarten behind academically and routinely fall further and further behind. The Tampa
Y believes guidance, encouragement and support along the learning continuum – from early learning and preschool to high school graduation and college – provide the best chance for our youth to succeed in school and life. The Y works with caregivers, students and schools across the Tampa Bay area to close the achievement gap through evidence-based programs that improve students’ educational readiness, engagement and outcomes, while helping them grow emotionally and physically, too.
