COMMUNITY PARTNER CHAMPION AWARD
The Ruth and J.O. Stone Foundation
#rememberburke
The Community Partner Champion Award is a recognition given to organizations, foundations or individuals who have made a significant contribution to the community through their partnership and collaboration with the YMCA of the Suncoast. This award acknowledges their dedication, commitment and hard work in making a positive impact on the community. It serves as a reminder of the importance of working together to achieve common goals and improve the lives of those around us.
We are pleased to recognize
The Ruth and J.O. Stone Foundation as the Community Partner Champion award
winner for their outstanding commitment and dedication towards our shared goals to keep children safe around water.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4 in Florida, where we hold a staggering statistic of losing more children under the age of 5 to drowning than any other state in the nation. The YMCA is committed to preventing drowning and ensuring children are safe around the water, providing water safety lessons and swim lessons to children in our community.
However, until recently our YMCA did not have a proven curriculum for teaching basic skills to our most vulnerable population, infants and toddlers. The FLOAT program teaches children ages 1-4 life-saving skills including how to roll on their backs, breathe and float to the side of the pool until help arrives. These fundamental skills could give a family precious seconds if a water incident should occur.
Through a generous gift, the Ruth and J.O. Stone Foundation has enabled the YMCA to bring this program to all the YMCA of the Suncoast areas serving Pinellas County to help save lives. We are grateful
for their ongoing partnership and look forward to continuing to work together towards a brighter future for our community.
