P. 10

 DEAR FRIENDS,
If there ever was a year to say thank you this would be it. WOW! To say 2020 was a challenging year would be an understatement. From a worldwide pandemic and civil unrest to a divisive political climate and record-breaking hurricane season, our Tampa Bay community, and nation as a whole, faced situations we would never have imagined.
Despite every obstacle, challenge or setback, our
Y persevered...making a greater impact than ever before, as seen in this Annual Report. One of the most profound ways we were able to step in and
fill a critical void was with our Youth Relief Care for essential workers. On very short notice, we were able to mobilize quickly and work collectively with our neighboring Ys to provide emergency childcare to the heroes on the frontlines of this health crisis.

This unbelievable impact simply would not be possible without the generosity of supporters, like you, who understand the Y is more than a gym...we are a community! We are humbled by your immense support. Likewise, we greatly appreciate our members who stayed with us, donating their monthly membership dues to support our efforts during our temporary closure this spring.
Thanks to our donors and members, we were able to reinvest more than $7.6M back into the community through direct scholarships and subsidized programs to ensure that our YMCA is FOR ALL. Your generosity allows us to open our doors to kids and families

regardless of their financial capacity, enabling your Tampa Y to effectively serve 223,774 individuals in 2020 regardless of a 9-week shutdown. We appreciate your continued trust in and commitment to the Tampa YMCA mission
and cause.
In cooperation with healthcare providers and emergency management, the YMCAs of Tampa Bay cared for over 1,500 youth from more than 1,000 families of essential workers who continue to play important roles combating COVID-19. We are honored to be able to provide a necessary service that many employers would not otherwise have had during this unprecedented time.
Additionally, our YMCA was able to double down on our food insecurity efforts, not only providing 15,440 meals to Youth Relief Care kids in partnership with our local school districts - but also providing more than 182,000 pounds of food to more than 10,000 families through our Veggie Van in partnership with Feeding Tampa Bay.
We found ourselves starting and strengthening many vital partnerships because of the COVID-19 pandemic. What a blessing it is to work together with other mission-driven organizations to keep our Tampa Bay community strong! In fact, our efforts earned us two prestigious awards in 2020: the COVID-19 Hero of
I would like to personally thank the Governance Board, Center Advisory Boards, volunteers, donors and staff for their dedication and continuous support to serve the critical needs of our community during such an unpredictable year. I am excited to work with the same passionate group of leaders as we reengage the community to overcome 2020’s challenges together.
Every day at the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA, we remain committed to our cause to strengthen our community. Thank you for your help to keep Tampa Bay healthy and strong in spirit, mind, and body.
With appreciation,
Matt Mitchell
