Another key focus area is drowning prevention. Florida leads the country in accidental drowning deaths in children ages 1-4. The Y’s goal is to eliminate these drownings by providing life- saving swim lessons to all areas served by
the YMCA of the Suncoast. One of the ways we do this is by offering free Safety Around Water classes to local children, thanks to the generosity of the Florida Blue Foundation, Juvenile Welfare Board and United Way Suncoast. In a safe, structured environment,
Y instructors instill a love of the water while helping kids and parents build safety skills and knowledge.
The YMCA of the Suncoast is here to provide
a helping hand to those who need it the most. Through Outreach work, the Y partners with Eckerd Kids, Directions for Living and Youth and Family Alternatives, Lutheran Family services, Kid Central and Pinellas Community Foundation to offer foster care children and their families, free access to learn, grow and thrive in our
Ys across Pinellas, West Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.
