  Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental childhood death. More children under the age of four drown
in Florida than anywhere else in the nation. Further, Hillsborough County regularly ranks among the highest counties nationally for drowning cases in the same age group. To reverse these statistics, the Y offers free and more affordable swimming and water safety courses so that they’re available to everyone.

» Provided $4,271,716 in financial assistance to ensure participation in all programs among youth, adults and families facing financial hardship.

 » In partnership with the Tampa Bay Rays, United Way Suncoast and the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County:
- Provided 1,416 Y summer campers with free water
safety and swim lessons through the Go for Green
program.
- Provided 525 kids with free water safety and
swim lessons through SPLASH! Week.

» Taught 105 children free water safety and swim lessons in apartment complex and neighborhood pools through the Mobile Water Safety Team “Be Water Smart from the Start” initiative in partnership with the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County and others.
» Served 61,604 individuals at little or no cost to the participant thanks to the charitable contributions and volunteer efforts of Y members, donors, community partners and foundation support.
