Chitral in port

decided that I would apply to P&O for a job, as I had determined to my
Iown satisfaction, that there was no more suitable a company for me.
Firstly, however, I had to find out about Heidi, for whom I still carried a burning
torch. On February 6th, I therefore purchased a ticket to entrain for Geneva, but
this was preceded by an unfortunate accident in the MGA; I was driving on a
country road with high hedges and sharp turns, and as usual the road was about
as wide as the car itself. In turning a bend too quickly, I was met by a very solid
hedge. The left-hand side of the car was badly dented, obviously an unexpected
and unpleasant expense that I really did not need. I still wonder whether getting
the ticket, writing to Heidi to tell her that I was about to arrive, and the accident
were connected; they probably were.
Three days later I entrained for Geneva, but have no recollection of the trip,
including the cross-Channel passage (the idea of there being a Channel bridge
or Chunnel seemed to have died a natural death). Arrival in Geneva revealed a
delightful city, mountains and lake providing a perfect scene, and the place as clean
as a whistle. It took but an hour to find her address, and I knocked on her door.
