f. Oriana – a rather sad ending, sold in 1986 as a floating
attraction and hotel firstly to Japanese interests and then to
Chinese interests, it declined into a rusting hulk until
severely damaged in a storm in 2004, after which it was then
ignominiously scrapped.
g. Comorin – sold in 1972 to Alonso Garcia and then scrapped in
that year.
h. Chitral – transferred to E&A (a P&O subsidiary) in 1972,
broken up (Taiwan) in 1975.
i. Salsette – sold for scrap in Kaohsiung in 1979.
j. Cannanore – sold for scrap in Taiwan in 1972.
k. Canberra – broken up on Gadani Beach, Pakistan 1997 (see ‘A
very Strange Way to go to War’ by Andrew Vine, Aurum Press
2012).
l. Cathay – transferred to E&A in 1970, then passed on to
People’s Republic of China, but its actual fate seems not to have
been determined and it may still be in operation.
