The national team was adrift for a time before the
rebirth of the early 80s under the baton of the star
Michel Platini. The big change came in 1984, with
the first title of the European Championship.
These successes paved the way for the clubs, in
particular for Olympique de Marseille, which won
the UEFA Champions League in 1993, followed by
Paris Saint-Germain FC, which won the UEFA Cup
Winners' Cup in 1996.
In 1998, 60 years after hosting the first edition of a World
Cup, France again organized the flagship event of world
football. Trained by Aimé Jacquet, Les Bleus were
awarded for this opportunity In 2000, under the
direction of Roger Lemerre, France won the second
European title, before adding to their showcases the
FIFA Confederations Cup in their editions of 2001 and
2003. France hosted the first UEFA EURO with 24
selections, which ran from June 10 to July 10, 2016.
