Football was introduced in France in
the late nineteenth century but it
was not until 1932 and after a long
debate, when professional football
was installed in France. In the first
seasons, the Stade de Reims, AS
Saint-Etienne and AS Monaco were
confirmed as the most usual
champions. Olympique de Marseille
was the winner four consecutive
times, from 1988 to 1992. The current
champion is Paris Saint-Germain.
