               ACADEMIC ADVISING MISSION STATEMENT

East Stroudsburg University recognizes academic advising to be a critical component of
the educational experience and is focused on promoting critical thinking, sound decision
making, and successful transition of students to the University.

Through a collaborative relationship with Academic Advisors and Academic Success
Coaches, students become more aware of skills and competencies associated with their
academic success. Academic advisors and coaches facilitate learning by engaging
students in an advising dialogue that promotes the expression and justification of
               individual life and career goals.

               ADVISING PHILOSOPHY

Academic Advising provides students with the opportunity to build a relationship with
their advisor for the purpose of gaining assistance in planning their educational career,
and in learning how to access the variety of resources that are available to them at East
               Stroudsburg University.

Academic Advising is a shared educational process whereby students and their advisors
partner to meet essential learning outcomes, to ensure academic success, and to outline
steps for the achievement of personal, academic, and career goals. The advisor / student
alliance requires participation and involvement of both the advisor and the student as it
is developed over the student’s educational experience.
