Margaret Anne St John GCM. MB. BS (UWI), FRCPC,. FAAP
completed internship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados, a residency and Ambulatory
Fellowship in Paediatrics at Kings County- State University Hospitals in Brooklyn. She completed a senior’s resident year in Paediatrics and was the first Fellowship in the Paediatric Infectious Diseases Department at the hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
She resettled in Barbados in 1980 and employed as SR, and subsequently consultant until 2018, in the Department of Paediatrics, being Head of Dept for a decade and, Chairperson of the Drug and Therapeutics and Hospital Infection Control Committees for 2 decades.
She was appointed as Hon. Professor, Child Health Faculty of Medical Sciences, Child Health in 2010.
Post retirement from QEH in 2018, she was appointed as an Honorary Consultant.
Her publications number over 150 research articles and abstracts in peer reviewed journals focussing mainly on infectious diseases, HIV and childhood obesity and contribution to two books.
She also serves in a volunteer capacity on the Boards of a number of children's charities and is medical advisor. She is the Editor of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) Bulletin, and she isa member of the Privy Council of Barbados.
Her non -medical interests include, gardening, travelling, rendering assistance to organisations supportive of childrens’ needs. She is passionate on improving the quality of life and health of children.
