Memories
Memory 1
The most prominent memory from years in UWI is that afternoon in October 1968 when we all stood in the entrance parking lot of Irvine hall to see the offloading of the new freshmen and freshettes that had just been brought to the hall from the airport having come from the smaller islands south of JA on the then BWIA bus run. An angel like freshette stepped of that bus and, struck by her beauty, I turned to my friend standing next to me and said “dah one deh is my personal freshette”. Fifty years later I still lay claim to that freshette. Praise God!
Memory 2
The aftermath of the 1968 Walter Rodney affair brought the University under siege by the Jamaica defense force and the setup of pillbox like fortifications at the Papine gate of Irvine hall with tanks and machine guns. This gave birth to the famous phrase “Helicopters hovering over my ra.. and harassing my ....”
Memory 3
The night we in Irvine hall took E V Ellington’s little Fiat car and lifted it into the dining hall placing it on a dining table.
