Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up: ‘Shake Your Sillies Out’ performed by The Wiggles See autumn lesson one. Make sure to use lots of energy!
* Running time approx. 2 mins.
2. Stretching and curling: Hedgehogs See autumn lesson one.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
3. Travel to Danceland: ‘Thomas the Tank Engine Theme’ performed by The Little 'uns
Use your elastic to make a train with the children. Put the middle of the elastic around your waist and stand at the front to be the driver. The children line up behind you inside the elastic and hold both sides. Ask an adult to stand at the back and hold the end of the elastic. Remind the children that they must tell their feet what to do (using brains in feet analogy) and practise moving your feet on the spot saying “chug-a”. Play the track and the group moves together like a train. The emphasis should be on teamwork. * Running time approx. 4 mins.
4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ as in autumn lesson one.
Tell the children that today they will be learning about body parts. Point to a part of your body. Ask a volunteer to name it and tell you what it does. Repeat with several other body parts.
* Running time approx. 3 mins.
5. Fine Motor Skills: ‘My Feet’ written by Lucy Milan Davis & Sarah Moss Click activity name to open YouTube video link.
Perform the song, as shown in the video, three times.
I can make my feet go walking, I can make my feet go running. I can turn them out like this,
I can turn them in to kiss.
I can lift my toes up high,
And I can make them wave goodbye. * Running time approx. 2 mins.
6. Choreographed Dance: ‘The Hokey Pokey’ performed by Kids All-Stars Click activity name to open YouTube video link.
Teach the children the tricky moves first, then play the track and perform the dance all together, using the choreography from the video.
NB: this version differs from the traditional one.
