PEAKE SAYS” whenever you see fit! Then move onto some space themed actions, such as blast off/float around/hide from the meteor shower etc. You may need to demonstrate the space actions before including them in the game.
15. CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE TWO: ‘Hi5 Base to Outer Space’ performed by Hi-5
Click on song name to open the video in YouTube.
Hand each child a coloured scarf and practice the tricky moves. Play the track and perform the dance as in the video.
16. CHASING GAME*: ‘Catch the Astronauts!’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Tiny Tim’) Put on your posh teacher voice. “And now you’re going to have a lesson on how to be a real astronaut. I am the teacher and you are my students. Follow me.” Sing the song acapella and perform the actions as indicated by the lyrics.
“All astronauts must know how to walk on the moon!’
The astronauts are walking, the astronauts are walking, the astronauts are walking, in the space class.
“All astronauts must know how to hide from meteors!”
The astronauts are hiding...
“And, of course, every astronaut must know how to fly a space ship!”
The astronauts are flying... The astronauts are sleeping... The astronauts are waking...
Now I’m going to be the alien and chase you and see how many astronauts I can catch!” Chase the children as you sing the final verse.
The alien is chasing...
Ask the birthday boy/girl if they would like to be the next alien. If they say no, choose someone with their hand up who managed to escape you. Remind the next alien that when you sing “The alien is chasing” they must catch as many astronauts as possible. Repeat and then choose child who “managed to escape” to be the next alien (otherwise they’ll all just be caught on purpose). Repeat as many times as necessary (for example if there is no pass the parcel and/or not many children you may get through the activities quickly and so extend this one, or if you are running behind you could perform the activity just two or three times).
17. MUSICAL BUMPS: ‘Wings’ performed by Little Mix
Ask the children if they know the game ‘Musical Bumps’. Tell them we’re going to play a game just like it! “Now astronauts can fly all around the galaxy but they have to be able to be jump down and avoid meteors if there is a meteor shower!” Tell the children that as the music plays they are going to fly around the room just like a real astronaut (demonstrate pretending to fly around in a rocket ship as you say this) but when the music stops it means there is a meteor shower and so they must jump down and land on a nearby planet as quickly as possible (demonstrate jumping down as you say this). Do not eliminate children or make anyone ‘out’. Rather, tell them that you will be watching carefully and if they jump down to the floor when the music stops, then they will all get some magic sparkles at the end of the party! Play the track and the children fly all around the room. Encourage them to do different types of movement such as flying high, flying low, spinning around, and dancing! Pause the music sporadically and the children jump down and land on the nearest ‘planet’. At the end of the game, congratulate the children on doing a great job and tell them they’ve all won some magic sparkles that you will give them at the end of the party.
18. PARACHUTE ACTIVITY WITH HIDING: ‘The Aliens are Hiding’ (sung to the traditional tune of ‘Someone is Hiding’)
“It’s time to play with the parachute again!” The children sit around the imaginary parachute and move it from side to side to the pulse for the first two lines. For each,
