that a fire had taken hold of the roof and his cattle were running free across the fields. His

wife ran towards him in distress. She told him how wolves had also attacked the sheep and

how the horses were missing from the barn. ‘What are we to do?’ she cried. ‘How could

such bad luck have befallen us in a single night?’
