Mahidol University: A Research-led Institution

Established in 1888 as a medical school at Thailand’s first hospital, Mahidol University is now one of the country’s
top academic and research institutions. In 1943 it became the University of Medical Sciences, and in 1969 it was
renamed as Mahidol University by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, in honour of his late father H.R.H. Prince
Mahidol of Songkla. Today, the university retains its expertise in medicine and health-related subjects.
