There is a seeming rapprochement underway between the Palestinian

Fatah administration led in the West Bank, and the Hamas regime in
Gaza, leading to talk of Palestinian unity, which they say would set

the scene for comprehensive talks with the Israeli Government, even
though it has now moved, in their opinion, to the hard right. For their

part, the Israelis believe that that the Palestinians are not serious about

either serious compromise or recognising the right for Israel to exist as
a Jewish State. The Netanyahu administration is also preoccupied with

Hezbollah activities in Lebanon and Iranian actions in that country and

also neighbouring Syria.
