Section Six
6 Drive Thru’
6.1 It is recommended that the areas under
the drive thru entrance signage be cleared of
all existing planting / boulders / bedding plants
etc. and a simple turf finish used.
6.2 The turf finish will act to ‘de-clutter’ the area
and make the new style of signage prominent
within it’s surroundings.
6.3 Turf will allow signage to be accessed more
easily and safely by McDonald’s staff and
contractors for cleaning and maintenance
operations.
6.4 Often at busy periods staff walk along the
drive thru lane entrance to take customers
orders. By hard landscaping these areas a
member of staff will be able to safely walk along
the lane without a trip hazard in secondary
order positions.
6.5 Should areas of grass become worn due to
excessive wear by foot traffic – paving should
be considered within these areas.
C2.6 Soft Landscaping
6.6 The areas of landscaping immediately along
the drive thru itself should also be turfed where
possible in order to give an impression of space,
(the building and canopy are very close to one
side of the vehicle, so no dense or overhanging
vegetation is wanted on the other side of the
vehicle). This may involve removal / taking back
of a margin of existing planting and then turfing.
6.7 A section of new planting should be
incorporated as a feature in the vicinity of the
entrance of the drive thru to give visual appeal
and invite customers (where possible).
6.8 Ideally new planting should also be
incorporated in an area in view of customers
waiting to collect their order at window 3 (where
possible).
6.9 Where there are multiple signs within a
small area, suitable paving should be used as
very small / irregular sections of turf will struggle
to establish, be difficult to mow, and have little
aesthetic benefit.
