About Light Travels
Here I draw on travel experiences from 1998 when I fell pregnant, to 2019 when my child turned 21 -- being a mother gave me new eyes, and intensified pleasures and questions.
I am indebted to an academic profession that offers travel opportunities. I work as educational technologist at the Durban University of Technology.
I am grateful to Stephen (the world’s best father) and sometimes my loving mother Ina, for holding the fort at home during some of those trips when I traveled alone.
Lately motherhood has become my motivation to travel, as Megan began studying in the Netherlands after completing high school.
Five poems are from previous collections, but here, they appear with translations. From Begin: “Ride for Free” (previously titled “Havoc in my Belly”) and “First Embrace, Finland”. From Amytis: “Rooftop Room”. From Step Through: “Pocketful of Berries” and “Hyde Park”.
