Chapter
History
In the spring of 1975, a group of young men in the Stamford, Connecticut area began meeting for the
purpose of organizing a Fraternity chapter. Thus on May 9, 1976, sixty-five years after The Founding
Fathers organized Kappa Alpha Psi (Originally Kappa Alpha Nu), Stamford Alumni was born.
The seed that Dennie Simons, Ed Strayhorne along with the other eight charter members planted
blossomed into “Stamford Alumni Chapter” of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. From this
distinguished nucleus has evolved a parade of good professional men that subscribe to the
fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi, ACHIEVEMENT in every field of human endeavor. The
composition of the current and past membership reflects this.
Among the chapter’s membership are CEOs, Partners, Entrepreneurs, Lawyers, PhDs, Doctors, Clergy,
Educators, Government Officials, and a myriad of other occupations and professionals. Within the
chapter we have furnished national appointees, a Laurel Wreath Laureate winner, provincial officers
along with supporting and assisting the election of national candidates. Many of our chapter Brothers
are members of other organizations and assist local community based programs in the name of Kappa.
Stamford Alumni supports the National Kappa Foundation and the Stamford Alumni Diamond
Foundation, Inc. as well.
The motto of Kappa Alpha Psi is Training for Leadership and Stamford Alumni has a history of
providing aid to the youth of our neighboring communities. The development of our youth is a primary
concern of every Stamford Alumni Kappa as we maintain individual and chapter relationships with
students from grade school through high school. We have expanded our Guide Right Programs and
Scholarship Fund raising to include other organizations as a year round activity .
The Chapter’s premier social event is our Achievement Gala that is hosted in March of each year.
