To my defunct wife Lê Thị Vân-Anh who had
austerely but successfully tried to provide our six young
children with nourishment and schooling, and even
myself with supplemental food, during more than 12
years I was harshly imprisoned by the Vietnamese
communists.

And to my dear friend Thompson A. Grunwald, the
first Director of United States Information Service in
Huế, Central Vietnam, whose precious assistance
helped me become the first ever to teach English-by-
radio to Vietnamese listeners nationwide.
