P. 104

Algebra II course. Students can choose between receiving credit for Geometry P or Pre-IB Geometry. This course is a prerequisite course to Pre-IB Algebra II.
COURSE: AHS PRE IB ALGEBRA II YEAR COURSE: 10 CREDITS COURSE CODE: IBMA GRADES 10, 11
PREREQUIOSITE: A grade of “C” or better in Pre-IB Geometry (no entry from Geometry). New students to AHS can enter this course with an 80% on the placement test
Fulfills High School Math Requirement
This course continues to develop the algebraic concepts and IB ideology introduced in AHS Pre-IB Geometry in a rigorous and in-depth manner. AHS Pre-IB Algebra II covers more objectives than outlined in Algebra II and with a different textbook. This course introduces new topics including, but not limited to, polynomial functions, inverses, complex numbers, logarithmic and exponential functions, matrices, probability, series and sequences, and an introduction to trigonometry and vectors. Logic and problem solving skills are developed throughout the course. The IB philosophy of internationalism will be a common thread throughout the course. The graphing calculator will be used as a problem-solving tool. This is a prerequisite course to IB math SL.
COURSE: MATHEMATICS IB SL YEAR COURSE: 10 CREDITS COURSE CODE: IBMSL GRADES 11, 12 PREREQUIOSITE: A grade of “B” or better in PRE-IB Algebra II
UC/CSU – Subject “G”
The course will take an in depth look into algebraic functions and equations, trigonometry, matrices, vectors, probability and statistics, and calculus topics. The study of number theory and other non-European topics will be included where appropriate. The historical aspects of each topic will also be investigated. The course will emphasize the application of mathematical concepts and techniques to real-world problems, and bridge historical problems to current math problems.
COURSE: IB PHYSICS SL YEAR COURSE: 10 CREDITS
COURSE CODE: IBESP GRADES 11, 12
PREREQUIOSITE: A grade of “C” or better in Chemistry, and a grade of “C” or better in IB Math SL and/or Math Analysis P.
UC/CSU – Subject “D”
This course will offer students another opportunity to complete the Science requirement for the IB Diploma. IB Physics will introduce the students to the IB Internal and External Assessment methods. The IB philosophy will be incorporated throughout the course with focus on internationalism, rigorous instructions and assessment, and critical thinking.
COURSE: IB CHEMISTRY SL YEAR COURSE: 10 CREDITS COURSE CODE: IBQCPSL GRADES 11, 12 PREREQUIOSITE: Concurrent enrollment in Pre IB Algebra II or Math IB SL UC/CSU – Subject “D”
This course allows students to develop interpersonal and information technology skills, which are essential to life in the 21st century. By studying chemistry students should become aware of how
