music, the culture and history of performers and styles, and the skills needed to be a successful musical performer. Guided listening sessions, discussions and written reflections on musical performances (live, recordings, videos) are integrated throughout the year.
Since the course can be taken for multiple years, the development of higher level musicianship and skills continues with each year (as is common in band, orchestra and choir classes). Being a music performance class, the students develop regular practice habits outside of class which allows the ensemble to move on to more challenging concepts and pieces.
