The course is concerned with the elementary theory and practice design for theater in producing a play. Students will be assigned to a crew for each school play. The crews include lighting, sound, scenery, properties, publicity, stage management, house management, theater business management, costumes and makeup. Students will be expected to put in some hours outside of class, working on school plays.

HS General Elective
This course exposes students to elementary theory & practice design for theater productions. Students will learn how to safely use tools and equipment in the scene shop, Black Box and Mainstage. Practical application of skills is a major component of this class. Students will be assigned to a crew for each school play. The crews include lighting, sound, scenery, properties, publicity, stage management, house management, theater business management, costumes & makeup. Students will be expected to contribute some hours outside of class, working on school plays.

HS General Elective
This course will allow students to learn the physical properties in the technical aspects of theater such as sound, color, stage construction, costume design, hair & makeup, as well as theater management, stage management, & the use of all theater equipment. Students will also learn how to create, design, & implement production schedules, create stage management plans, create advertising & marketing campaigns, & work in conjunction with local businesses & community members to help bring the productions to life. The focus of this class is to emphasize not only the business aspect of how theater production works in the front of the house, but also how it implements what they have learned from the technical perspective in sound, lighting, color, & stagecraft, to carry out production in the back of the house.
Technical Theater will also have an outside class requirement. Students will need to work on one show/crew per semester, and will have a mandatory portfolio assignment due for each production.
