church site in the Megiddo Prison, Israel. The discovery is very remarkable. Thousands of people have been affected by the unveiling of what is now known as possibly the Holy Land’s oldest church.
We have a copy of a CNN News article from the Internet. Notice the date and time it was posted. Web site – http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?idq=/ff/story/0001/200 - dated 11/07/2005 10:52 A.M. (Titled – Archaeologists Unveil Ancient Church Site, by Ramit Plushnick-Masti.)
Two mosaics were found inside the church. The diggings uncovered the story of a Roman officer along with a lady by the name of Aketous. These two individuals donated money to help in the erection of this church building. The money donated, as the story unfolds, is in the memory “of the God, Jesus Christ”. This church is said to be dated from the third century. Archaeologists make reference as decades before Constantine legalized Christianity across the Byzantine Empire. As quoted from the web page, “Vatican officials also hailed the find.”
The digging uncovered what they believe to be a baptismal site. Tepper, (Yotam Tepper – excavation’s head archaeologist) made this acknowledgement. If this is the case, what kind of baptism took place there? We may surmise, that if the inscription on the mosaics said, “of the God, Jesus Christ”, that baptism was then done in the name of Jesus Christ. Remember this is decades before Constantine’s promotions of legalizing what they consider Christianity – the teaching of the Triune. It would be very interesting to have been there at the time to find out. Please take note that the Roman Catholic Church where the ones who changed the baptismal formula to the trinity concept. The apostles never baptized in three separates, just one name – Jesus Christ!
