little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto me, that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting" (Micah 5:2-4; Zechariah 9:9-10; Isaiah 9:6). To whom was the prophet Isaiah pointing to when he announced, "Prepare Ye the way of
the LORD, make straight...and the glory of the LORD shall be revealed " (Isaiah 40:3,5) Here were his good tidings for the cities of Judah: "Behold the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him;
behold his reward is with him and his work before him. He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young" (Isaiah 40:9-
11;Revelation22:12). TothesearchingquestionofChristinMatthew16:13, "Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?" Messianic prophesies had alreadygiventheanswer. Itiswritten,"SurelytheLordGODwilldonoth
ing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets" (Amos 3:7). In particular, Isaiah 25:9 had unmistakably identified the one who brings the salvation of the Lord in these terms: "And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this
is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD;
we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation." Of course, Peter was commended by Jesus when he answered, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16). Again, on the day of Pentecost, he was to know and assure the house of Israel that "God hath
made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ" (Acts 2:36). That message brought conviction to the hearts of his hearers (Acts 2:37-38).
Isaiah 53.7 was the passage masterly interpreted by Philip to convince the Ethiopian eunuch of the suffering Christ. The beginning of this wonderful prophecy was examined earlier in our study to show the meaning of the
"arm of the Lord who "shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground" (Isaiah 53:1-2). That was the manifestation of God the Father, as God-Man.
Another revealing messianic prophecy is found in Zechariah 11:11 which
says, "And it was broken in that day (speaking of the covenant that the Lord God had previously entered with the people and symbolized by a staff in the hand of the prophet): and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD (dawbar)." The following verses (12 and
13), pointing to the betrayal of Christ, are very strikingly precise when com pared with the accounts of this event in the gospels. Christ was the Word of
the Lord, which was made flesh (John 1:14).
John the Baptist was called "prophet of the Highest" to go "...before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways" (Luke 1:76). That "Highest" is "Lord". That is why the forerunner, John the Baptist, testifying of the Highest, who
