274 ♦ Bi)le waters'Theology Chapter E^ht
Other theologians argue that speaking in tongues is permissible today, but only if there is an interpreter, citing I Corinthians 14:27-28, In Isaiah 28:11-12 the Lord declares yor with stammering lips and another tongue will I speak to this people. This is the rest ye may cause the weary to rest, the refreshing: yet they would not hear." This prophecy is reapeated in I Corinthians 14:21. TheHolyGhostisthatr^t,andspeakingintonguesisnotconditional upon
an interpreter being present. In Acts chapters 10 and 19 we find people receiving the Holy Ghost, who spoke with tongues with no interpreter nor interpretation given.
Modem day theologians attempt to try and refute the Holy Ghost infiling with speaking in tongues as the evidence, fall flat; clearly an attempt at self- justification, seeing they have notreceived this glorious experience for them selves.
The Bible must be our only authority on any given subject, and not the philosophies and traditions of man. The Bible clearly teaches that speaking in tongues is for today, and is the sign of receiving the Holy Ghost.
If any one dares to say, "I have received the Holy Ghost, but I don't speak in other tongues," then they have run contrary to scriptural testimony. The biblical experience of receiving the Holy Spirit includes speaking in other tongues. Anythinglessisnotbiblical. "LetGodbetrue, buteverymana liar" (Romans 3:4).
C How to Receive the Holy Spirit
1 One Must First Repent of His Sins
Repentance is the key for receiving the Holy Ghost, for "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit"(Psalm34:18). "ThesacrificesofGodareabrokenspirit:abrokenand a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise" (Psalm 51:17).
Joel prophesied saying, "Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, ...and with mourning: And rent your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God...Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people...And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh" (Joel 2:12-28; cf. Ezekiel 37:1-14; Jeremiah 3:2-3; 5:24; Ezekiel 47:1-12).
