Verse10: Butwhen thatwhichisperfectiscome, thenthatwhichisinpartshall be done away. Here Paul differentiates between a time when things are done
"in part", and a time when "that which is perfect is come". Let us read fur ther.
V erse ll:l^^ten I zoas a child, I spakeas a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. There is a time of being a "child" when things are done "in part". When the "child" becomes "a man", when that "which is perfect is come", that which is "in part" shall be done away with.
V erse 12: For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face toface: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. Paul says "now we see through a glass darklj^'; "now" I know "in part"; "now" is the time of a "child". But "THEN"...When is "THEN"? "Then" is when that which is "in
part shall be done away." "Then" is when "that which is perfect is come."
"Then" is when we "put away childish things." "Then" is when we will see
"face to face". Yes, the Word of God is perfect, but the question is not "what"
is perfect, but rather "who " is perfect? Itsays we will see "face to face", not "cover to cover". Who has a face we can see and is perfect? JESUS. He is the
only one. So the proper interpretation of this passage could be stated as thus: "NoW we do things "in part", as a "child", seeing "through a glass darkly",
put perfect one, Jesus Chrsit, comes back for His Church, we will pehold Him "face to face". "Then" we will be a "man"
having put away "childish" things; things which were done "in part".
When Jesus comes, all prophesy will end. There will be no need for knowledge as we know it, for we will know all things GJohn 3:2). There will
be no need for speaking in tongues, for we will all speak one language, like it was originally intended for man.
Adam and Eve spoke one language that was given to them by God. Their descendants continued to speak that one language until they rose up against
God at the Tower of Babel. There, God confounded their language to show His power and authority over man. It was never intended for there to be more than one universal language. When man is fully restored and in the prescense ofGod, the mystery ofspeaking intongues GCor. 14:2; Rom. 8:27-
28) will end, and there will once again be one universal language.
Paul goes on to give guidelines for speaking in tongues "in the church": in chapter 14 of Corinthians. After all his expounding on the subject of speaking in tongues, he makes one statement to make sure that no one mis interprets what he is trying to say: "FORBID NOT to speak with tongues" G Cor. 14:39).
