While students enjoyed and achieved in the prac cal element of the Physical and Outdoor Educa on courses, the wri en component of Levels 2 and 3 remained a challenge for some students.

SOUTHLAND MATHEMATICS ASSOCIATION COMPETITION (SMAC)
These were held at James Hargest senior campus. Southland Boys’ High School entered between 2 to 4 teams at each year level (7 to 10).
This year Southland Boys’ was compe ve, with one team missing out on third in a e breaker and another team placing third in their year level.
Congratula ons to the team of Daniel Lord, Andrew Kennedy, Luca Fairhurst and James Hamilton who were third in the Year 9 compe on and to the team of Ruairidh MacCallum, Ma hew Smith, Tom Waghorn and Tasi Smith who ended up fourth in the Year 8 compe on.
Well done to those who competed.

SENIOR PRODUCTION – ROCK OF AGES
The crowd has gone home, the smoke has cleared, and the band has packed up
their guitar

drums cks.
This year’s Senior
Produc on, Rock
of Ages, proved to
be a huge hit with both the cast and audiences alike. Featuring huge rock
hits from the 1980s from bands and ar sts like Journey, Poison, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, REO Speedwagon and Europe, the show provided wall to wall laughs and some excep onal performances from the following Southland Boys’ High students:

stage manager Mrs Petelo and our wardrobe coordinator Miss McSoriley, who volunteered hours and hours of their me to help make the show the success that it was.

THE BIG SING
The Senior Choir, Momentum, performed at the Southland Regional heats of the New Zealand Choral Federa on’s Big Sing Compe on on the evening of Tuesday 19th June at First Church. Featuring students from years 8-13, and a wide range of spor ng and cultural interests, Momentum had been working towards this event since the beginning of the year.
Choirs sing repertoire from three categories – ‘Art’ Music, New Zealand/Pasi ka Music, and an own selec on. Momentum sang
‘Set Me as a Seal upon Your Heart,’ New Zealand (which was wri en by past SBHS Music teacher Kennedy Black), and ‘Tell My Father ‘.

The Senior Theatre Tech class provided support for the show as stage crew, sound and ligh ng technicians. This was an important part of several assessment standards that require prac cal involvement in actual performances.
