ODDBALL
SMOKEFREE ROCKQUEST
On Friday 15th June, SmokeFree RockQuest returned to CentreStage again for 2018. Southland Boys’ High School had one entry this year, progressive punk rockers Oddball (Sam Grant, Reagan Lang and Jared Gilbertson). Hot o the heels of their whistle stop tour of the SBHS Assembly Hall, the band played two pieces, Red Sunrise (view on YouTube at: h ps:// youtu.be/l0ZKRQyG0hY) and crowd favourite, Capable (view

Oddball were placed third in the band category, and were acclaimed for their highly desirable line of exclusive (that is, unavailable) merchandise. Contact the band members directly to register your interest in missing out on ge ng one of their T-Shirts.
SOUNDQUEST
On Friday 17th August, the annual Sound Quest compe on, run by Li le Fire MusicWorks, was held at the Southland Musician’s Club in Preston Street. Southland Boys’ High School were represented by two bands – Oddball (Sam Grant, Reagan Lang and Jared Gilbertson) and String Strap (Devin Ledington, James McLean, Jacob Hewton and Sam Grant).
Throughout the evening, bands played a range of covers and original material. While neither of the SBHS bands picked up any of the prizes, they were clearly crowd favourites with their respec ve sets.
