The 16 players in the squad won positions in the Town Fifth Grade trials and the following players were selected for the Town Fifth Grade team: Murdoch, Baker, Robertson, Heenan, Adam, Dahm, Hamilton, Shaw, Pannett, Shirley, Beaton and May.
After an uncertain start early in the season, the team combined very well to win the competition without su ering a defeat, although we drew with Tech. in a very_ hard game.
The team·s record was: Played Won Drew

The forwards played well together and reached ne form towards the end of the season. Galbraith and Poole were impressive in line-outs and rocking, and Evans stood out in the looser play.
The team is indebted to Mr. Williams for his en thusiasm and very able coaching through the year and this will be of great value for the team in the future.
The team was: Shirley (captain), Singleton (vice captain), Beaton, Forrest, May, Pannett, Hamilton, Shaw, Dahm, Adam, Heenan, Baker, Scott, Derbie, Robertson and Murdoch. Boyd, of Seventh Grade A, acted as a reserve for the team on several occasions.
All-round ability in the forwards laid the basis of the team·s play. Alexander, Stewart and Rodger secured a healthy percentage of the line-out ball, and in the scrums Adank hooked well. Gibb Cull and Agnew were of solid value in the front row, while Dud eld, Tait and McLean were intelligent loose forwards. McLean, particularly, was outstanding in a competent pack. Half back Chalmers improved considerably as the season progressed. Fitzgerald excelled in all aspects at rst ve-eighth and scored many points with his kicking. Paris proved to be the outstanding player on attack and Edgar was solid and dependable at centre. The wings were Dynes, Hughes and Leith. Leith, originally a prop, proved to be a " natural " three-quarter and developed a very e ective swerve. At full-back, Coch rane was reliable and had an outstanding game in the rst round against the A's.
The team wishes to thank Mr. Knight for his coach ing during the season. The team: Galbraith, Wilson, Morris, Leckie, Evans, Heathcote, Paris, Poole, McEwan, Troon, Jones (captain), Thompson, McLeary, Shirley, Wealleans, Waldron.
The team had a successful season, winning 8 games out of 11 to nish runners-up to the A's in the Fifth Grade competition.
The B team was not particularly successful, but on most occasions were unlucky to have lost by so much, or to have lost at all. In the last game they were beaten decisively by the A's 41-0.
The team was: Adank, Gibb, Agnew, Cull, Alex ander, Stewart, Rodger, Tait (vice-captain), McLean, Dud eld, Chalmers, Fitzgerald (captain), Paris, Edgar, Dynes, Hughes, Leith and Cochrane.
The team played well at the start of the season, being defeated only once in the rst round-by James Hargest, who ran out eventual competition winners.
The team thanks Mr. Currie for his coaching and support during the season.
Unfortunately, only one win was notched in the last ve games. This was probably because of the unavail ability of some players for matches, making it im possible to build up competent combinations.
Several of the team began the season as timid or inexperienced players, therefore there was an oppor tunity for obvious improvement during the winter.
In the forwards Anderson played well, always being close to the ball. Dermody and Shand turned on some good displays. In the set play the forwards won their share of the ball, but at times there was a weakness in failing to give the half-back adequate protection and a slowness to capitalise on the loose ball.
Team spirit was slow to develop, but some co ordination coμld be observed at various stages during each game. It is to the team's credit that they did not default durinq the season even though they lost all of their games. In many games the opponents scored about eight tries because defence was weak, but some close scores were recorded.
Stevenson showed ability at half-back, and Boys played tireless rugby, displaying both ability and spirit. On the wing Bennett showed determination. As the season progressed the backs displayed more con dence and proved quite solid on attack.
Better jumping in line-outs, de nite rocking in scrums, and positive e ort by all players would have improved all games. The backs had speed but rarely had the needed opportunity. The forwards were light in the scrums but they used their weight well and often gained the ball.
The team would like to thank Mr. Ruhen for his coaching throughout the season.
The team would like to thank Mr. Simpson for his helpful support.
Wilson, Gray, Stevenson (captain), Boyd, Richmond, Anderson, Shand, Thomson, Jones, Hunter, Dermody, Stewart, Watson.

Seventh Grade B had a poor season, /laying nine games without a win, although in the secon round there were a few close scores. The forwards all played well with Macdonald and Hay driving the forwards well and Herbison taking the ball well in the line-out. He

The backs also combined well and as a result scored many tries. The more impressive players were the wings, Weallons and Shirley, who had a number of good runs, and Waldron who kicked extremely well. His abiilty to start movements led to many tries.
The team looked as if it might develop into a sur prisingly good side after drawing 7-all in their rst game against Marist, but the Marist side came back to win by 30-3 in their second encounter. They were beaten by Hargest (14-0, 18-0) and School A (26-6, 41-0) twice each and the Tech. side once.
The team would like to thank Mr. Bemrose for his coaching and support at the games, also Mr. Knight who helped out in organizing the game for which Mr. Bemrose was absent.
The team was: Lowe, Breen, Horner, Highet, Johnson, Boult, Pottinger, McKenzie, McKintosh, Laidlaw, Todd, Wilson (captain), Redpath, Bu s, R. Knarsden and C. Burns.
