                                              PASSIVE VOICE

               Pasive Voice is the relationship of the subject to the action as :

                     active: the subject is doing the action
                     passive: the subject is receiving the action


               For the example :
                                 Active Voice                              Passive Voice

                   The Teacher teaches English subject        English subject are taught by the teacher

                   [subject]   + [verb] + [ object]           [Object as subject]+[to be past

                                                              participle of a transitive

                                                              verb]+[optional prepositional phrase]

               From the example above, we can used passive voice for :

                   1.  Who  or  what  performs  the  action  while  using  the  passive  voice,  we  use  the
                       preposition by
                       E.g : Insulin was first discovered in 1921 by researchers at the University of Toronto


                   2.  The actor is unknown / we don't know or do not want to express who performed the
                       action.
                       E.g : The cave paintings of Lascaux were made in the Upper Old Stone Age.
                       [We don’t know who made them.]


                   3.  The actor is irrelevant:
                       E.g :An experimental solar power plant will be built in the Australian desert.
                       [We are not interested in who is building it.]
