             Tilis shows that in ~l!J m<ir q:;:~~ ( ~igveda) we must
,,~·:! crstand ;:r'JT to mean +n<~r ti)f~T or lunar position in ~~ and
"'-': ,ufar. The same conclusion follows firstly because marriages
J.r::; nl~t celebrated when the swr is in ~r. for then the moon to be
fu;] must be in ~9UJ and so the month would be ~~. and no
rnarriages arc celebrated in ~f<iUJ. Secondly T.Fi:Ff is a month of
         rr.arriage; but if we interpret T-1~~1~ ~ i:!~ to mean a solar ~
~:he moon to be full must be in +!~T and the month will be
+rT~~ which again is not a marriage-month. Thirdly, as it is a
marriage between ~r~ (masculine) and ~r (feminine) we must
ta}~e it to refer to the fill! moon night; when the moon is the
brightest and the sun invisible-hence ~~~ as feminine.
jf the passage be so interpreted. as it must be, for reasons
given above, then it confirms the statement 'f,'!<;T11 qTjV]~rtft ljq-ffi\~
         !1:C:+IT '${: in the Brahmai.tas.
             Two interpretations possible :- ( I ) -ffl-o:r~~ or ( 2) :<i~-o:r~.
J .m-o:r~~-so that Surya is in ~"lr and T.T<;~j successively.
Pros:- (a) If we take +~r~ ~r.tiJ ~o. then the sun and the
                        moon are together.
( b ) The fortnight preceding is PirJ:i-pakslza when the
sun is at the end of Magha or the beginning of
                        P1lrva Tor~~.
