                                                                             Mayor  and  four-member  council,  elected
                                                                             by district  to  four-year  staggered terms.
                                                                             The Cuba Council of Trustees meets the last
                                                                             Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.
        Native  Americans  have  occupied  the  area  near  the  village  for
        hundreds of years. In the 1700’s Spanish ranchers and farmers settled             TRUSTEES
        the area, and many large ranches and farms thrive here today.                  Cecilia Delgado
          The village is at the base of the Nacimiento Mountain Range and at
        the  edge  of  the  Navajo  and  Jicarilla  Reservations  and  the  Jemez       Monica Olivas
        Pueblo. It is thought that Cuba is named so because it was once                 Brian Velarde

        Spanish word for water “tank” or “trough.”
           The Cuba area is known for its wildlife.    It is an ideal area for hunting   Mark Hatzenbuhler, Mayor
        or wildlife spotting, where herds of elk and deer roaming the nearby
        foothills.  It is also a favorite stop for travelers on NM 44/US 550,
        a major highway connecting central New Mexico with
        the Four Corners region.                                            Cuba is home to the annual Sandoval
