In the late 1950s, real estate pioneer Doris and Alfred Kaskel
purchased 2,400 acres of swampland in South Florida for 07:30 AM – 09:30 AM Breakfast
$49,000, with the intention of building a golf course and hotel. 08:30 AM – 10:00 AM Board of Directors I
In 1962, the Kaskel’s dream came true when they opened a 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM Internal Affairs Committee
hotel and country club. They named it Doral – a combination 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM Finance Committee
of Doris and Alfred.

The Doral Hotel and Country Club, the city’s first structure, 01:00 PM – 06:00 PM Hospitality Suite Open
became the area’s hot spot. In the second year of operation, 01:30 PM – 02:30 PM Public Affairs Committee
the Kaskels hosted the first Doral Open Invitational, Florida’s 02:30 PM – 03:30 PM Governance Committee
major PGA event.

By the early ‘80s, Doral started to experience the first spurts 07:30 PM – 09:30 PM Dinner
of growth when Doris’ and Alfred’s grandson Bill developed 09:30 PM – 11:00 PM Hospitality Suite Open
Doral Estates that was followed by a joint venture with
Lennar Homes to build Doral Park. Both communities were MONDAY 1/9

more times. From 1983-85, the county imposed a building
