2. Upington railway bridge is 1 067 m long
and as such the second longest in southern Africa where
the railway line from De Aar to Namibia crosses the Or-
ange River. It is quite a sight to see when the Orange is
in flood at 12 million cubic metres per second.

3. Wine cellars, fruit packing store, grape
sugar concentration plants and a brandy distillery
in and around the town of Upington and surrounding
regions may seem insignificant at first glance. In the
extreme heat and harsh sunlight these facilities are,
however, proof of a world-class farming industry. This
is where companies process the produce and where the
farmers pack fruit under tightly controlled conditions
