bour is the White House, Europe’s first skys- craper. The White House was built in 1898, and at a height of 43m was the highest office building in Europe for a long time. This is in stark contrast to the world we now live in.
For the most attractive view, walk to the Span- jaardsbrug, which commands a splendid panoramic view of the entire Old Harbour.
07 THE HOFBOGEN.
The environment surrounding The Hof-
bogen is popular with Rotterdam residents, and yet this Rotterdam highlight is not as well-known as it might be. The Hofbogen vi- aduct park is situated on the roof of the for- mer Hofplein Station, from which trains once plied between Rotterdam and Scheveningen for a century. There are several photo-hotspots here, including the bright yellow Luchtsingel, a wooden pedestrian bridge with a length of 390m. This very noticeable eye-catcher is also a popular Instagram spot in Rotterdam.
08 BOIJMANS VAN BEUNINGEN DEPOT.
The Boijmans Van Beuningen Depot is such an icon! Since autumn 2021, this architectural masterpiece has been fully devoted to housing the art collection of the Boijmans Van Beunin- gen Museum. This is really something special. The Rotterdam Depot is the first art depot in the world to give visitors access to a compre- hensive collection of no fewer than 151,000 art objects. The 40m-high roof of the mirrored building features a roof garden which com- mands a panoramic view of the city and its port.
09 WATERTAXI JETTY 30: MAASKADE / NOORDEREILAND.
The Watertaxi is another of Rotterdam’s spec- tacular attractions. A trip on a Watertaxi is guaranteed to give you the finest view of Rot- terdam and its skyline, and also makes the differences between the historic and modern harbours clearly visible. But what you may not know is that one of the Watertaxi jetties also features a splendid Rotterdam Instagram spot. From Jetty 30, you get a truly marvellous view of our very own ‘Manhattan upon Meuse’, with the Erasmus Bridge on your left, the Whi- te House in front of you and the Willemsbrug on your right. Obviously, the bright yellow of the jetty makes the picture complete!

THE EUROMAST.
The Euromast is a sight well-known to almost everybody. The highest building in Rot- terdam, and incidentally also the tallest obser- vation tower in the Netherlands, it is a house- hold name in the city. The Euromast was built in 1960 on the occasion of the Floriade of that year, and at the time its height was 100m. The tower is situated in The Park, also known as the Euromast Park. In 1970, the tower was ex- tended with a Space Tower, raising its height to 185m and making Euromast the tallest ob- servation tower in the Netherlands. Standing on the viewing platform at the top of the Eu- romast, you will have a splendid view of the Rotterdam skyline. Having said that, you can also take marvellous photos from the park.
06 HISTORIC DELFSHAVEN.
The Old Dutch harbour in Historic
Delfshaven is almost completely unknown to those not living in Rotterdam. That is a pity, because this splendid Rotterdam site with its picturesque marina of Historic Delfshaven also has a story to tell. Delfshaven is one of the few parts of old Rotterdam that survived the bom- bardment of the city in 1940. This city quarter used to be famous for its herring fishery and gin distilleries. It is currently a vibrant part of the city, characterised by historic canal-side buildings, including congenial antique shops, gin cafés, beer breweries and hip restaurants. Historic Delfshaven is also a very photogenic Rotterdam hotspot, with the Piet Heynsbrug being perhaps the most eye-catching feature.
