INSTAGRAMABLE SPOTS IN ROTTERDAM.
We are Lois and Naomi, two adventurous travellers from @travender.nl. Our mission is let’s travel and wander, so we are always on the lookout for unspoilt and authentic places. Rotterdam is constantly developing as a city, and architectural eye-catchers appear in rapid succession. This makes Rot- terdam an ideal environment for photophiles, who will always find ample opportunity for taking brilliant photos. THE ERASMUS BRIDGE FROM
DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES.
Everybody knows them, those idiosyncratic yellow houses with their uniquely distinctive architectural style, also known as ‘Structura- lism’. Thanks to this type of architecture, the Cube Houses, with their unique shapes, were one of the first places in Rotterdam to create a more hip vibe for the city. Throngs of tourists still come to Rotterdam to take photos of the Cube Houses, so obviously we had to give it a go too!
03 THE MARKTHAL.
Straight across from the Cube Houses
you will find another genuine Rotterdam icon: the Markthal. This spectacular building is situ- ated in a prominent position across from Blaak Station, and can be identified by its typically Rotterdam-style architecture. Commissioned in the autumn of 2014, this unique residential
and office building also houses the first ind- oor fresh-produce market in the Netherlands. Many types of organic and fair-trade food are on offer in the market each day, and shopping there is an exceptional experience. Although the Markthal is particularly popular with tou- rists, many Rotterdam residents also like to pay an occasional visit, if only to see and capture images of this impressive building, both inside and out!
04 OLD HARBOUR.
Located near the Markthal and the
Cube Houses is yet another wonderful high- light: the Old Harbour. This is one of the ol- dest harbours in the city, and is surrounded by the intriguing amalgam of historic buildings and modern architecture typical of Rotterdam. One of the highlights of Rotterdam’s Old Har-
As Rotterdam locals, we are constantly trying to spot new photogenic places, and we have obviously shot the Erasmus Bridge from pret- ty much every angle imaginable. One of the hidden Instagram spots we have discovered recently is the site pictured here. From this per¬spective you can capture the Erasmus Bridge from below, which makes for a unique image. You will have to lie on the ground to take this photo, but the result is definitely worth the effort!

The Cube Houses are a veritable masterpiece from architect Piet Blom. An ico- nic Rotterdam image for more than 30 years now, the Cube Houses are famous worldwide.
