白/素 White
“White”, Symbolizes the color of gods.
e most direct and appropriate color of respect for God and for purity. In ancient Japan, the gods were dressed in white, and the soul a er death was the place where God lived.
Also white is the color of mourning and death.
e Japanese tradition holds that white is the expression of the heart of nature,so using in white for their shoji screen.
‘‘ Shoji ’’ are Japanese sliding doors consisting of wooden frames and thin Japanese paper.
