His Working Life
Vinayak was trained to be a school teacher. He worked in few schools and also tutored privately to supplement his income. He worked in a school named Alegaonkar School, but I do not have much information about his work there, except that he had to go on bicycle a very long distance to this school. Later, he worked in Gopal High School in Pune. He was well known in Gopal High School as a good Mathematics and language teacher. But he was more wellknown as Bua, meaning saint amongst the teachers of Gopal High School. I was a student at this school much later, after my father had left that school.
Once there was a school inspection by the municipal corporation of Pune City. The education inspector, noticing the quality of my father’s teaching, and knowing the poor economic condition of my father, recommended his name to Saint Ornella’sHigh School, in the camp area of Pune. He was offered a better salary and also made Principal of the middle school. However, the Christian authorities of the St.Ornella’s school wanted to use him to spread the Christian religion, as Vinayak had many spiritual followers. My father had to go through a lot of harassment from the Christian authorities of the school. Ultimately he resigned from the teacher’s job.
When Vinayak resigned from the teacher’s job at the age of 66, he was offered a supervisor’s position in an incense factory owned by one disciple. Later we shall see how this disciple rose from economically poor condition to a rich status due to Vinayak’s blessings. Vinayak accepted this job, but as fate would have it, Vinayak had to work very hard as a laborer in the incense factory at a very late age. He was treated very harshly as a laborer and it took toll on his health. He was also insulted in many ways by some members of the disciple’s
