never punishes a devotee for any mistake. A student should love and trust in a real saint and the God without any hesitation.[Illustration 9: Neel Kulkarni at IIT Kharagpur, 1979].
During the second year of my Bachelor’s degree course, I learnt that Aeronautical Engineering students do not find job in Aeronautical Engineering. Some of them go to the U.S.A. for advanced studies and most of them find non-Engineering jobs. This caused me a lot of pain as I felt I shall not get a job after all this big show of studies and my family’s idea of improving our status will fail. This thought bothered me for a long time and it was affecting my happiness and studies. Ultimately, I wrote to my father explaining my situation. He wrote to me a short response stating that I should focus on studies and job will be a God’s job. He wrote a statement saying that I shall get my job with Tatas, a corporation that has nothing to do with Aeronautical Engineering. I was curious to know how Tatas would offer me a job. But, I had total trust in my father’s words. So, I kept quiet and became happy. Later, I forgot all about Tatas. When I completed my Bachelor’s degree, our family situation was really bad financially. My father was also much older and becoming ill at times. All friends and family were looking towards my employment and income. I went to a few job interviews. For one of the interviews, I had to go to Banares area. I took advantage of this situation to visit the famous Kashi Vishweshwar Temple in Banares. My father wrote to me to visit a specific family and also encouraged my going to Banares. I was not chosen for the jobs. So, I applied for a Master’s degree progam. My father supported my doing this study though his financial situation was bad. During the Master’s degree studies, I was offered a teaching assistantship to do PhD studies in the USA.
