I was very interested in this. My father supported this wholeheartedly. But, I was not offered visas. My father told me to stay happy and continue the task at hand. He said I would get an opportunity to go out of India later in life. I had not applied for PhD studies in Indian universities and was concerned about my future after the Master’s degree education. Interestingly, Tatas Corporation did arrive in the IIT Kharagpur to employ candidates for the Software Development jobs. They chose 65 students from various branches of Engineering, who were top students only, for their selection process. They did not choose any Aeronautical Engineering candidates for this process. But, the head of the department of Aeronautical Engineering pleaded withTatas to allow at least one Aeronautical Engineering student to appear in this selection process as no jobs were coming for the Aeronautical Engineering graduates. They accepted to allow only one candidate with the Aeronautical Engineering degree. The first ranker was not sure about accepting job if chosen, so I was sent for this process. Out of 65 only 9 candidates were selected based upon the written exams and oral interview by the panel of four. I was chosen! I was offered a job with Rs. 1300 per month stipend, 13 times the salary of my father. All of us felt happy, except I hated working in Mumbai. Also, I found that I could not help my father with the money at all from this stipend as Mumbai was expensive and also I liked to enjoy expensive things. My father never asked for money and never discussed this issue. But, I did get the job in Tatas as he had mentioned only once 5 years beforehand.
