At the Early Learning Coalition of Duval, keeping children healthy and safe is one of our top
priorities. Whether children are in center or home-based care, providers are responsible for

keeping them safe while in their care. “This is why I encourage each and every one of our
providers to discuss safety measures with their staff at every staff meeting. They may have
notebooks full of written policies and procedures,
but if they are not discussed regularly, minor

concerns can escalate to Class I Violations. I
encourage providers to put as much energy into
their commitment to health and safety as they put

into any other important part of running their centers
or family child care homes,” says Denise Marzullo,
         President/CEO.

The ELC of Duval is naming October “Healthy &
Safety” month. We will be sharing tips, recognizing providers who have gone 1-5 years with
NO violations from the Department of Children and Families (DCF), and various other

activities. We discussed this with providers during our recent Town Hall meeting. We also
had an open discussion on assessments, legislative issues, and Guiding Stars of Duval.
