Odor reduction test
In the first set of tests, the artificial human body odor was
made by adding 1.25 mL of isovaleric acid to 23.75 mL of
water resulting in a 5% isovaleric acid solution by volume.
This produced a very objectionable odor that would be
stronger than real life perspiration. Since the test was
going to be using a subjective smell scale, obvious and
significant reductions in odor needed to be able to be
perceived. Odors rankings of 7 and higher often produced
a quick response, and the item did not need to be fully
brought to the face for detection, while odors 3 and below
required bringing the item completely to their face to
judge the smell. The strengths of the first odor and odor
upon treatment with OdorKlenz are rated on a scale of
®
one to ten, one being trace/not present and ten being
unbearable on a subjective scale.
In the next set of tests, the equipment was treated with
®
OdorKlenz SPORT Powder before applying the 1mL of
“sweat” odor. The objective was to observe the residual
efficacy of the powder for a second time. The strengths of
the odor were rated on a scale from one to ten, one being
not present and ten being unbearable.
In this table, the “Control” is the odor level on the item
®
without any OdorKlenz ; the “Residual Efficacy” is the
item that had an initial treatment with OdorKlenz, then the
sweat odor being applied to simulate the reuse of the item.
The “Final Treatment” was using the same item as in the
“Residual Efficacy,” but with a second or final treatment.
