• Spam is a complex problem that demands a sophisticated, multi-layered solution. Cisco makes it easy. To stop spam
from reaching your inbox, we deploy a multi-layered defense that combines an outer layer of filtering based on the
reputation of the sender and an inner layer of filtering that performs a deep analysis of the message.
• Using our Cisco SIO, we are able to drop over 80% of the bad email just based on the reputation of that sending IP
address. Our SIO can tell if it’s a valid SMTP connection. We can tell if the links embedded in that message take you
to a legitimate site or a malware site. And we can block the sender because we know they’re a spammer - on the
front end.
• At that point, if you want, you can bypass the spam engine and deliver known good email. Now we just have to
scan the rest of the email in that grey area with our anti-spam engine.
• This results in a highly accurate spam defense. 99% accuracy with an industry low false positive rate of less than 1
in 1 million, without sacrificing performance.
